What does education have to do with divorce?

On Behalf of | Oct 12, 2017 | Divorce

There are a lot of factors that go into whether a couple will stay together or not. Few people in Missouri or elsewhere tend to consider that their education level has anything to do with it. Why would that matter, right? However, according to a recent report, education actually does play a fairly significant role in divorce.

According to a professor at Northwestern University, people lacking in higher education are more likely to get divorced. Why? Job opportunities. There may be fewer good job opportunities available to them. This can bring stress into a marriage that some may struggle to overcome.

This is not at all saying that those who do not attend university are not capable of living happy and productive lives. Of course they are. The purpose of this study is to simply show that divorce rates among those who are college educated have declined dramatically over the last several decades, and the reason behind this decline is thought to do with the fact that those who have college degrees are believed more likely to find job and salary security which can remove quite a bit of stress from a marriage.

At the end of the day, marriages end for numerous reasons. Education may play a part or it may not. Every couple is different. Regardless of why a Missouri couple chooses to get a divorce, when ready each party can turn to legal counsel who will be able to help them through the process and assist them in seeking final settlement that is fair and balanced.
